ZPMC Finalizes Hull for LD Armateurs' Offshore Wind Vessel

In a milestone for maritime infrastructure, Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries has finished the primary hull assembly for the first Service Operation Vessel commissioned by France’s LD Armateurs. The 90-meter craft is engineered to serve as a self-sustaining floating base for wind farm technicians operating in punishing, deep-sea environments.

The vessel, measuring 19.6 meters in breadth and 7.3 meters in depth, supports crews of up to 96 personnel for missions lasting longer than 30 days. Its hybrid diesel-electric propulsion, augmented by lithium batteries, targets a marked reduction in carbon output. Operational precision is maintained through a DP2 dynamic positioning system, while a telescopic motion-compensated gangway and 3D crane facilitate the transfer of heavy equipment in rough waters.

Following its completion and delivery, the vessel will head to the DanTysk and Sandbank offshore wind farms in Germany. There, it will transition into its primary role: executing long-term maintenance and critical component replacements to keep the wind sites functional. The design prioritizes onboard living standards to ensure maintenance teams remain effective during extended rotations far from shore.
