Based in Albany, New York, Rail Modal Group (RMG) specializes in moving freight from producers to foreign ports by consolidating exports onto full-length, 100-plus car unit trains. Since its founding in 2018, the company has operated as a vital bridge between regional agricultural processors and U.S. West Coast container ports. To date, RMG has managed over 1,200 unit trains, effectively replacing an estimated 200 million truck miles in the process.

InfraRed, an international infrastructure asset manager overseeing $13 billion in equity capital, intends to leverage its resources to expand RMG’s existing terminal network and service capabilities. Filip Guz, head of Americas investments at InfraRed, pointed to RMG’s differentiated network as a primary driver for the investment. For his part, Oberting stated that the partnership provides the necessary infrastructure expertise to support the firm’s long-term growth strategy. While financial details remain undisclosed, both companies confirmed that the focus will shift toward increasing terminal resilience and developing new logistics locations across the U.S. Midwest and Plains.
