Azenta Appoints Martin Madaus as Interim CEO Following Marotta Exit

Azenta has appointed Board member Dr. Martin Madaus as interim president and CEO, effective immediately, following the sudden resignation of John Marotta. The Burlington-based life sciences firm has initiated a formal search for a permanent successor while maintaining its current financial guidance for the fourth quarter of 2026.

Madaus brings over three decades of experience in the diagnostics and life science sectors, currently serving as a Senior Operating Executive at The Carlyle Group. His resume includes leadership tenures at Millipore Corporation, Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics, and Roche Diagnostics North America. Given his two-year history on the Azenta Board, company leadership expects his tenure to provide stability as they continue to execute their long-range strategic plan.

While the company reaffirmed its total revenue guidance for the fourth quarter, investors should note a $3 million one-time consulting expense impacting adjusted EBITDA. Board Chairman Frank E. Casal emphasized that the company remains committed to its core business units and disciplined capital deployment. The firm has retained Heidrick & Struggles to conduct the search for a permanent chief executive.
