Gurnick Academy Eyes Van Nuys Campus for Vocational Nursing Expansion

A potential January 2027 launch date for a Vocational Nurse diploma program at Gurnick Academy’s Van Nuys campus hinges on pending state regulatory approval. If the California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians grants the green light, the school will finally unify its nursing curriculum across all six statewide locations.

The proposed 12-month diploma program is designed to funnel students directly into the San Fernando Valley healthcare workforce. Spanning 48 weeks, the curriculum transitions from foundational bioscience and classroom theory to intensive skills-lab practice and clinical rotations at local medical facilities. Graduates must eventually pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses to earn their LVN credentials.

Since its 2019 inception, the Van Nuys facility has focused primarily on imaging and allied health training. Adding nursing would mark a significant shift for the location, fulfilling a long-standing goal for the administration. Samantha Manlosa Sanchez, Dean of Nursing Programs, noted that the expansion aims to provide a local pipeline into the profession for regional students. While the academy is actively accepting inquiries, school officials emphasize that the January start date remains subject to change depending on the board's final decision.
