The initiative, dubbed Next Play Showcase, aims to provide athletes with verified data, professional-grade performance testing, and direct visibility to coaches and scouts. While the NCAA transfer portal facilitates movement, it often leaves players without the necessary advocacy or evaluation to secure a new roster spot. Next Play is designed to act as a career-advancement tool rather than a passive database.

The venture kicks off with a live event scheduled for January 2027 in Melissa, Texas. This showcase will be streamed to ensure participants are evaluated in real time by decision-makers. By leveraging Sports Academy’s existing infrastructure in performance training and sports medicine, the platform intends to offer athletes a structured environment to prove their capabilities.

Bud Dupree, who co-founded the project, emphasized that the current system lacks the support structure needed for players to navigate the crowded recruiting landscape. The platform focuses on answering critical questions for athletes, specifically regarding their fit, performance, and future placement. While the initial phase is dedicated to college football, the organizers plan to expand the model to other sports, aiming to provide a consistent solution for athletes who are currently under-seen and under-supported within the collegiate system.
