Greenberg Traurig Advises on Kuwait International Bank's Debut Sukuk

A significant $500 million senior sukuk issuance from Kuwait International Bank hit the market this week, drawing heavy investor interest. The deal, which matures in 2031 and carries a London listing, marks a major milestone for the Kuwait-based lender as it executes its long-term capital funding strategy.

The transaction was heavily oversubscribed, reflecting strong appetite from the international investment community for regional financial instruments. This issuance represents a drawdown under KIB’s broader $1.5 billion sukuk programme, a framework Greenberg Traurig helped establish in September 2025. The firm’s Dubai-based team, led by Capital Markets Shareholder Alex Roussos alongside Sana Siddiqui and Oshin Maheshwari, navigated complex market conditions to secure the successful pricing.

Alex Roussos noted that the deal serves as a clear vote of confidence in the region despite current market volatility. For Kuwait International Bank, founded in 1973 as the Kuwait Real Estate Bank, this senior unsecured debt follows a previous Tier 2 issuance in October 2025. The bank remains a key player in the Islamic finance sector, operating under the regulatory oversight of the Central Bank of Kuwait.
