While Germany hit a record 58% renewable energy share in electricity consumption during the first half of this year, the surge in capacity has outpaced grid expansion. This bottleneck forces frequent output curtailments, often driving day-to-day electricity prices into negative territory. Operators are left with assets that cannot reliably deliver power to the market, eroding the project economics essential to servicing debt.
Enerparc, which manages 5.5 gigawatts of capacity across 500 solar parks, continues to run its sites under provisional administration. Its filing follows the insolvency of developer SoWiTec earlier this summer, pointing to a broader trend of financial distress among firms unable to navigate the current market volatility. Jens Burchardt of the Boston Consulting Group notes that while efficient, diversified players may survive, the era of outsized energy-crisis profits has ended, suggesting further consolidation or failures are likely.
