Blade and Bow Unveils 12-Year-Old Solera Reserve Bourbon

Stitzel-Weller Distillery is expanding its portfolio with the launch of a 12-Year-Old Solera Reserve, a limited annual expression that utilizes a complex, multi-vat finishing process to marry 12-year-old Kentucky straight bourbon with the distinct profiles of vintage Cognac, Bordeaux, Moscatel, and Port casks.

Developed by Nicole Austin, Diageo’s Director of American Whiskey Liquid Development, the new release aims to bypass the heavy, one-note wood influence often associated with cask-finished bourbons. By employing a fractional blending method, the whiskey integrates the tannic structure of Bordeaux and Port with the aromatic lift of Moscatel and the refined esters of Cognac. This technique creates a layered profile featuring notes of dried fig, almond toffee, cocoa, and dark cherry, anchored by a base of corn sweetness and oak spice.

Bottled at 52% ABV, the bourbon will carry a suggested retail price of $64.99. It is set for a phased rollout in select markets including Kentucky, Texas, Georgia, and Illinois. Starting July 17, visitors to the Stitzel-Weller Distillery in Louisville can sample the new expression as part of a curated flight alongside the brand’s standard and 22-year-old offerings.
